![]() Carol Chernega spent the summer of 2005 working in Jane Austen's garden in Chawton, England. Working in the countryside that inspired Austen's classic Pride and Prejudice gave Carol first hand experience in the practical aspects of English gardening. She's toured England 15 times in the past ten years, visiting numerous gardens to feed her passion for English garden history. She's also organized and led two trips to London's Chelsea Flower Show. She owns One Garden at a Time, a garden design and maintenance business that focuses on English Garden Design. And here's a description of the lecture, "How to Create an English Garden," with the addition of an emphasis on Queen Victoria: What's your idea of English garden style? Is it a colorful perennial border in front of a thatched cottage, or the classic statuary and rose garden of a stately home? Learn how to achieve either look, or something in between, as garden designer Carol Chernega presents her lecture "How to Create an English Garden". Carol will provide practical tips for achieving the English garden look in any size garden. For inspiration, she'll illustrate her talk with slides from significant English gardens, such as Vita Sackville-West's Sissinghurst, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Hampton Court Palace, and Christopher Lloyd's Great Dixter. She'll also discuss major gardening innovations that occurred during Queen Victoria's reign, concluding with a discussion of the gardens at Victoria's various residences.
